Freedom is participation!

As european citizens, we all have the responsibility to take care of the EU and contribute to its success, development and improvement.  The EU is not only an International Organization of States, it is a political and economical union based on the common interests, necessities, rights and obligations of all their citizens. It has been created to generate services and to manage and solve common problems of the European States in order to offer better life conditions to the citizens of this geopolitical area.  For this reason, the europeans have inherited the duty to participate actively towards the growth of the EU.  We are required to exercise our rights such as voting in the EU elections, to invest in its […]

Citizen of the EU

I’m proud and happy to be part of EU. Finland joined the EU in 1995 together with Sweden and Austria. It gives me so many opportunities, one of them, which I’m experiencing right now: the European voluntary service. What can I do to help the EU to survive and grow better? An obvious way is voting. It’s important to vote in your own country’s elections, and in EU elections. Decisions and changes made in one country might lead to other countries making the same kind of changes, in better direction. What I really like about EU, is that the borders are open. It makes travelling easy, and motivates me to travel more and see the world. That’s how EU brings […]

What can I do for the EU?

In these times it is so important to be a part of our society and to participate in the European Union. But what can we do for the European Union? At first, we can vote. All citizens of the European Union have a suffrage and we have to use it. Everyone can complain again about the politic of the EU but you can be an active part of it. And I think that most people in Germany know this. Because the voter turnout was 61,4 % in Germany for the elections to the European Parliament in 2019. And I was surprised that only 10.9% of the German voted for right populists. So, I think we are doing well in Germany. […]

Grande Adria, o continente perdido

A Europe of my grandchildren

How can we ensure the future of the European Project in the coming decades? Firstly, I doubt that there will be a European Project for my grandchildren (if I have any at all?) The problem is divided into certain reasons of why there might not be a future. If I were to have grandchildren and they were British citizens (unless I marry a someone from the EU 27 or if my children marry someone from the EU) then I do not think they will have access to European Citizenship. Brexit is the reason for this. My grandchildren would not be concerned necessarily with the European project because I believe that the UK by my estimations and how things are going […]

The future of Europe

Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity’. So said Robert Schuman in his famous declaration, launching the European integration project on 9 May 1950. Almost 70 years on, his words are as true as ever. The solidarity between Europe’s people and nations must constantly be adapted to deal with the new challenges posed by a changing world. What can I do for the future of the European Union to survive and grow in the coming decades? What can I do, as a member and citizen of the European Union that at the time of emerging denominations such as the […]

An Europe for the next generations

With Brexit, the refugees all over Europe and the climate change big things are happening as I write.  The next Elections to the European Parliament are held from the 23rd till the 26th of May 2019. Especially, at the moment it is really important to go voting.  To create a Europe where we would like to see our grandchildren grow it is urgent to go to these elections. But not only vote which is an important task what everyone of us should to, but also to start thinking about the environment. People of Europe have one of the biggest ecological footprints all over the world. Something, what we shouldn’t be proud of. It would not be hard to reduce that! […]

Karl der Große

Karl der Große – Carolus Magnus/Charlemagne. Born into the second ruler house of what is nowadays known as France, Charlemagne has proclaimed the French king in 768. His importance as a German monarch began with the Saxon Wars (772-804) when he invaded Saxony with the intent to conquer, a goal he finally reached after 32 years of brutal and bloody battles. One of his main motivations was to get present-day Germany to unify Europe under the Christian cross, which is why he was and always will be known as the Father of Europe. The height of his power was in the year 800 when he was proclaimed Emperor by Pope Leo II. His crowning turned him into “Augustus Imperator Renovatio […]

The short king of Poland

A small man who was a great king. In XIV century Poland had a king of Piast dynasty, who was famous because of his height. Wladyslaw became the King at the age of 52 years old and his way to achieve this position wasn’t easy. He was the middle son of Kazimierz I Kujawski, his two older brothers were almost adults when he was born. However, they were actually only half-brothers, because his father was married twice before he married the mother of Wladyslaw, Eufrozyna. A legend says that Eufrozyna tried to poison the older sons of Kazimierz I, so Wladyslaw who was still a baby at that time would inherit some lands after his father. The trap of Eufrozyna […]

Independence of Finland

Independence Day was first celebrated in 1917. During the interregnum from the fall of Nicholas II to the end of the Finnish Civil War in 1918, sovereignty in Finland was exercised by the Finnish Parliament. And until the October Revolution and the declaration of independence by the Russian interim government which happened after the civil war, regents were appointed by the parliament and a new king was to be elected. The nation of Finland has never been an independent sovereign monarchy. No attempt to establish a fully-fledged Finnish monarchy has been successful. When it finally became established as a modern independent nation state it was, despite a very brief flirtation with a monarchy, in the form of a republic. And […]

Blanca I of Navarre

The third daughter of King Carlos III and Leonor de Trastámara Blanca I of Navarre (Pamplona, 1385- Segovia, 1441), belonging to the dynasty of Évreux, was queen consort of Sicily between 1401-1409, and queen of Navarre from 1425 until her death. She was the third daughter of King Carlos III of Navarre, nicknamed “the Noble” and his wife Leonor de Trastámara. In 1402 her marriage was arranged with Martin the Younger, King of Sicily and heir of the Crown of Aragon. In 1408, Blanca is named regent of the kingdom of Sicily, when her husband leaves on a military expedition to the kingdom of Sardinia, from where he will never return since he died in Cagliari in 1409. The death of […]

Belgian Monarch: King Boudewijn

Let’s talk about the most iconic king Belgium has had in its history. Boudewijn was born in 1930, son of Prince Leopold, and his mother Astrid of Sweden who died in an automobile accident in 1935. On 15th of December 1960 he married to Dona Fabiola, unfortunately, they had no children. Remarkable facts: He replaced his father, King Leopold, at the age of just 21 due to the unpopularity of the former king. – During Boudewijns reign, the Belgian Congo became the independent Democratic Republic of Congo. – Boudewijn attended the state funeral of John F. Kennedy in November 1963, as head of state of the Belgian state – in 1990 Boudewijn refused to sign a bill permitting abortion, the […]
