The artist with a funny mustache

A young man who became very famous in a very short time. Young man, born in the city just next to mine, who became very famous in a very short time and became one of my favorites musicians. If you ask me about polish musicians I won’t tell you much – usually, I listen to music from abroad. This summer my friends invited me to join them for a music festival, where I have discovered there is a lot of great artists who actually sing in polish. One of them was Dawid Podsiadlo, a 25 years old singer with a great voice and unique style. Dawid Podsiadlo started his career as a musician after winning “X Factor” show in 2012 and […]

Czesław Niemen one of the greatest Polish singers and composers. He made his debut in the early 1960s. He is known as a rock, electronic and experimental musician, singing mainly in the Polish language. Niemen was born in the territory of present-day Belarus. He was one of the first artists in Poland who introduced the original style of psychedelia. He was distinguished by his long hair and colorful clothes, which was unusual in communist Poland. He recorded a song called “Strange is This World” (Polish “Dziwny jest ten świat”), inspired by Percy Sledge’s song “When a man loves a woman” and James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World”.

A Musician from my Country?

I picked a musician from Austria There are no famous musicians from Liechtenstein. As you may know, Liechtenstein is a very small country. Therefore it is very hard to find a famous musician from there, because, we don’t have any successful musicians. We do have small bands and other music groups, but none of them are worth writing about, so I picked a musician from Austria to write about instead. So the musician I’m writing about instead is called “Yung Hurn”. He’s an Austrian Rapper from the capital Vienna. His original name is Julian Sellmeister and he was born in 1995. He dropped out of high school and started rapping. His mixtape “22” was an instant hit, especially his hit […]

A paradise made of wood

In this text I want to tell you a little bit about my experience in this volunteering. Madeira is a Portuguese island whose history begins to count from the fifteenth century when it was permanently occupied for the first time. This information is important because my project is about the Madeiran legacy (the name of my project is Madeiran Heritage), and it tries to train volunteers to, through guided tours, show a piece of the history of Funchal (its capital), of the island in general, and some aspects of the history of Portugal. With the money that is obtained from this process we help for the different social projects of the University of Madeira. The project itself is very rewarding […]

Coming home

What is home for you? Where is home for you? How many homes can you actually have? Does it have to be family? Or can it be friends? I begin with these simple questions for you. Every volunteer has to go to two trainings: an on-arrival training and a mid-term training. Both of them take place on the mainland of Portugal. Most of us enjoy the time. We meet new friends, friends that experience the same but also the total opposite. I was actually lucky to go by myself because I am sure that it has you a whole different impact on you. And of course it is a nice opportunity to leave this island and get to know the […]

Future happens now

In 2015, a company from Hong Kong activated a humanoid robot named Sophia. She, because the robot is considered to be of female gender and is modeled after Audrey Hepburn, was interviewed in tv shows and by international organizations, such as United Nations. Although it is surely a great development, many people expressed their concerns that it may be dangerous for our race. Robot assured that she is only a peaceful creature built to help people, although the concerns escalated even more when for the question if she wants to destroy humans, asked by her creator, Sophia answered “OK. I will destroy humans.” Another controversy aroused this year when Sophia, as the first robot, got a nationality. Now she is […]

Weather changing

I write about November because it was a colder month in Madeira, a month of surprises. First I didn’t expected such a cold weather here. I mean it’s not so cold but it’s quite more than I expected from a semi tropical island. Also I had some troubles because the changing weather like for instance, I went to one levada, it was so sunny but in the middle of the levada it just rained a lot, so basically I walked for 6h under a really annoying rain (oh course I didn’t bring my umbrella). Another big change was the cold water on the beach, and that’s even in the warm days. Since the fact that November is not a touristic […]

Nature Festival on Madeira

Pros and cons of visiting Madeira in autumn In the end of September I had a few friends coming to Madeira from Porto. Naturally, I wanted to show them some of the most iconic views on the island, so I took them to places like Ponta de São Lourenço, Vereda do Larano, Pico do Areeiro. It was quite a shock to see all of them (places, not friends) completely burnt by summer sun, yellow and grey where just a few months ago, in early spring, everything was intensely green and flourishing. Later on I even compared my photos from April and late September and the difference in color is unbelievable. There can be no doubt about it – Madeira is […]

A minha Bulgária.

Varna, Balchik, […]
