The new generation in Poland

A mixture of folk tunes, with alternative pop and punk beats. Poland has several well-known classical composers as well as jazz musicians.  However, we can observe how the new music scene exploded. Unfortunately, this music is not internationally recognized. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to have a closer look and present one of the modern artists of the new generation- Monika Brodka. Her professional career started, as in the case of most young singers, during an audition for a music show. She won the third season of the Polish TV competition “Idol” in 2004 at the age of 17. The prize was to record a debut solo CD, which was called “Album”. The first two records of the […]

Golden Earring

The oldest still existing rock band from The Hague since 1961. In 1961, when the 13-year old George Kooymans (guitar), his 15-year old neighbor friend Rinus Gerritsen (bass guitar) and another 15-year old neighbor friend Fred van Hilst (drums) decided to begin a band, they named it The Tornados. But they discovered there was already a band in The Hague called The Tornados so afterward, they changed their band name into Golden Earring. I’ve been drivin’ all night, my hands wet on the wheel. The most famous song of Golden Earring is definitely Radar Love and also one of my favorites, of course. The song was recorded in 1973 and the band went international because of this song. For example, […]

Die Ärzte

Today’s blog post is about a musician from my home country. Therefore, I decided to write about the popular band “Die Ärzte”. Since my early childhood, I have been a huge fan of this band. Perhaps this sounds a bit strange due to the fact that the band is considered to be a punk rock band but I still enjoy listening to their songs and watching their videos. Let me give you some information about this band. The band was founded in 1982 in Berlin by Bela B and Farin Urlaub, who are two of the three band members. Farin Urlaub, the guitar player, Bela B the drummer and Rodrigo Gonzales were part of this band until their breakup in […]

Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus

An example of how Max Raabe’s music transcends time and space. Max Raabe enriches the musical landscape both nationally and internationally by reviving chansons from the 1920s and 1930s, re-interpreting contemporary songs, and composing film scores. In his early childhood, Raabe became passionate about music and joined a children’s choir. To further develop his talents, he attended singing classes and ultimately decided to study music at the Berlin University of the Arts. In Berlin, he soon found like-minded people and established the Palace Orchestra in 1985. The orchestra specialized in performing music from the 1920s and 1930s. A decade later, the orchestra released a series of songs, one of which appeared in a German film production. Ever since, the orchestra […]
