Ver lesões do cancro pela I.A.

[This is no haul for John Paul!]”, delivered just before a deadlift.

The golden age of Poland

Zygmunt moved Poland’s capital from Cracow to Warsaw “The Golden Age of Poland” occurred during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, formally, the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the largest and most populous countries in Europe at that time. In its largest territorial extent, the Commonwealth covered almost 1 million square km and sustained a multi-ethnic population of 11 million. Religious freedom was guaranteed by the Warsaw Confederation in 1537, which made the country one of the most tolerant. Another interesting fact is that between 1573–1795, kings to the Polish throne were selected in so-called “free elections”, disrespecting the rule of dynastic succession. The first free election took place after the last monarch of Jagiellonian dynasty died […]

Henry II of France

The twenty-fifth Capetian King of France and the son of Francis I. He is the perfect representative of the figure of a French Renaissance monarch. Indeed, under his reign (from 1547 to 1559), a lot of great writers had the opportunity to enrich the classical literature of the country. We can think for example at Montaigne, Ronsard, Du Bellay and many more. It is also at that time that the new creative and artistic movement of La Pleiade emerged. When Henry was very young, he was made the prisoner of Emperor Charles Quint, being exchanged for his father’s freedom. He is released four years later. At the age of fourteen, he is married to Catherine of Medicis with who he […]

King Louis IX – Saint-Louis

He had such a strong impact on the following kings. The article this month is about a King or a Queen of my country. France with a long, and complicated history had a lot of kings, some of them are more famous than the others, such as Louis XIV for example. But today I’m not going to speak to you about the “Roi-Soleil”. Let me introduce one of the most important kings, but also a quite unknown King of France: Louis IX aka Saint-Louis. Saint-Louis is the 44th King of France, from the Capétien family, his father is Louis VIII The Lion and his mother Blanche of Castille. He became king at the age of 12, but too young to […]

Casimir III the Great

The King of Poland from 1333 to 1370. He was the last Polish king from the Piast dynasty, born on 30 April 1310 in Kowal, died on 5 November 1370 in Kraków. He was the youngest, third son of King Wladyslaw I (“the Elbow-high”) and Duchess Jadwiga of Kalisz. When Casimir attained the throne in 1333, his position was in danger, as his neighbors did not recognize his title. The Polish kingdom was depopulated and exhausted by the war, and the economy was ruined. Thanks to Casimir the kingdom became prosperous and wealthy, with great prospects for the future. He waged many victorious wars and doubled the size of the kingdom, mostly through the addition of lands in modern-day Ukraine. […]

Charles II

His reign is one of great interest to many historians Charles II may not be one of the greatest military masterminds or a sly and cunning political figure, but he is one of the most exuberant, flamboyant, and promiscuous kings that England possessed. Known as the ‘merry monarch’ and a licentious playboy, his reign is one of great interest to many historians. His philandering became popular due to his liaisons with his Cockney mistress, Nell Gwyn. Before Charles was restored to the throne in 1660, after the Commonwealth years under “boring” Oliver Cromwell, Charles had to find a wife. Various German Princesses were offered for examination, but Charles would usually dismiss them as “dull and foggy”. Charles had a relationship […]

The colour of the lion

William of Orange – the ancestor of the Dutch monarchy William of Orange was the main leader of the Dutch Revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs that set off the Eighty Years’ War (1568–1648) and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1581. He was born in the House of Nassau as Count of Nassau-Dillenburg. He became Prince of Orange in 1544 and was thereby the founder of the branch House of Orange-Nassau and the ancestor of the monarchy of the Netherlands. Within the Netherlands, he is also known as Father of the Fatherland. A wealthy nobleman, William originally served the Habsburgs as a member of the court of Margaret of Parma, governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Unhappy […]
