Lil´kleine and Ronnie Flex

They conquered the world of the fourteen years old minds Lil’kleine and Ronnie Flex conquered the world of the fourteen years old minds and replace their thoughts of coke and chips for alcohol and drugs. If you want to chill, there is not a problem, because I will come. And of course, I never come alone, because I will always have alcohol and drugs with me. The controversial text wherein they mention that all teens say yes to MDMA is a search for the borders. They decided to cross that border in a mixture between pop and hip-hop. This song was the beginning of their bank accounts overloading with money. Nothing is too crazy. While Ronnie Flex focused more on […]

The Castle of Vaduz

The palace and official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein The castle of Vaduz (formerly known as Hohenliechtenstein) is the palace and official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. The castle gave its name to the town of Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, which it overlooks from an adjacent hilltop. It was built in the 12th century by the counts of Werdenberg-Sargans, who were also the former owners of the castle. In the Swabian war of 1499, the castle was burned by the Swiss Confederacy. The castle was expanded by Count Caspar of Hohenems. The Princely Family of Liechtenstein acquired Vaduz Castle in 1712 when it purchased the Countship of Vaduz. At this time, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor, combined […]

The artist with a funny mustache

A young man who became very famous in a very short time. Young man, born in the city just next to mine, who became very famous in a very short time and became one of my favorites musicians. If you ask me about polish musicians I won’t tell you much – usually, I listen to music from abroad. This summer my friends invited me to join them for a music festival, where I have discovered there is a lot of great artists who actually sing in polish. One of them was Dawid Podsiadlo, a 25 years old singer with a great voice and unique style. Dawid Podsiadlo started his career as a musician after winning “X Factor” show in 2012 and […]

War & Peace: Dom João I

The military successes (and failures) of Dom João I of Portugal. João I reigned as the 10th king of Portugal, succeeding Fernando I in 1385. As the naturalized son of Pedro I and a Galician noblewomen, his ascension to the throne represented the beginning of the Aviz dynasty. His coronation came during a time of conflict with the Castilian crown, who had sought authority over Portugal during a period of anarchy following the death of Fernando. It could be said that turbulent relations with Portugal’s Iberian neighbours defined João’s reign. João is commonly referred to as ‘the good’ or ‘the great’ by the Portuguese, due primarily to his victories over the Moroccan Marinid Empire in Ceuta as part of the […]

Last king of Portugal: Manuel II

Manuel II had the time to be a king for only about two and half years. King Manuel II was born in 15th of November 1889. He was the third child and the last son of King Carlos and Queen Amélie of Orléans and Braganza. They belonged to Braganza family, the fourth and last reigning dynasty of Portugal. His big brother Luís Filipe, as crown prince, was raised to become the king some day. He was interested in for example literature, reading and music. Other things that he liked to do on his free time were horse riding, fencing, rowing, tennis and gardening. Manuel was supposed to enter the Portuguese Naval academy. The plans changed, when in the 1st of […]

Anarchism in Portugal

The increasing of the anarchism in Portugal in the 20th century has an easy explanation. In this historical text, I could write about one king of Portugal, but I decided to write about a contemporary ideology which has been more important for the history of the Portuguese society than the politics of any king of Portugal from the human point of view. The anarchism appeared in Europe in the second half of the 19th century, and in the case of Portugal appeared after the creation of the IWA (International Workingmen’s Association), that collected different ideologies of the left-wing in Europe and USA. As everybody knows, Portugal has always been a state built by three institutions: Army, University, and Church. Also […]

King Louis I of Portugal

In his personal life, Louis was a man of many interests. When I do tours in the city hall al always see the portrait of multiple kings in the old ballroom. Most of them are pretty well known like Carlos, who was the first king to go arrive at Madeira, or Manuel II, for being the last king. However there is one king I never knew much about, except that his name was Louis I ‘the popular’, was king from 1861 to 1889 and the father of Carlos I. So I used this text as a chance for me to inform myself about him. King Louis I was born as the second son of Queen Maria II and King Fernando […]

New years eve in Madeira

I stayed here to experience Christmas and New years eve in Madeira. I heard many stories about new years eve in Madeira during the time I stayed here. A lot of people told me that it was the biggest new years in Europe, with large fireworks and parties. Obviously, I looked very much forward to the show. Luckily we managed to secure the roof on our residence during the new year so that we could see all of the fireworks and lights that would be ignited. We also made it a bit of a party where we served food and snacks to each other, with my contribution being ‘oliebollen’ (a traditional Dutch food for new years eve). When it was […]

Nature in Madeira

Nature in Madeira is great! Let’s discover a few things about it. “Olá” everyone, and especially you who are reading this article. You’re reading the 3rd one, and today we’ll talk about nature and some of the Madeiran’s levadas vegetation. First I want to tell you an experience that I had, in a few words. I lost my grandmother a week before Christmas. I discovered that It’s not worth it, going far from the city center to find peace and calm. Not going to Camara de Lobos or Calheta or Santa Cruz (names I remember so far, of villages around Funchal in Madeira. They are not all here quoted, of course). Non! Santa Catarina Park is a great place in […]
