Winter in Madeira

“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”. This is a phrase Madeira definitely lives by Whenever people ask me about Madeiran weather I simply just say “mood swings”. You just never know. During the summer it is mostly warm, dry but also humid. And even I, who arrived here in the beginning of September, had to wait a month or more to experience rain in Funchal. Coming home

What is home for you? Where is home for you? How many homes can you actually have? Does it have to be family? Or can it be friends? I begin with these simple questions for you. Every volunteer has to go to two trainings: an on-arrival training and a mid-term training. Both of them take place on the mainland of Portugal. Most of us enjoy the time. So much to do and (not) enough time

I just need to relax and enjoy the beauty of this island. Following that I will not regret anything when I look back. Looking at a map Madeira seems like a tiny island, which could be explored in a few days. There is a big difference between expectations and reality. There are so many hidden places to see, so many Levadas to follow and so many mountains to climb. Being a volunteer for ten months seems long at first but time flies. A food lover in paradise

As anyone who knows me would expect, I will have to share my impression and love of Portuguese food. My first experience of Portuguese food was on the flight to Madeira. I have to admit that I was disappointed when I first tried pastel de nata. But that was clearly the fault of the old ones which the flight attendants gave us. I have become a huge fan of them as soon as I tasted the freshly baked ones. By now I actually have to hold myself back, so I won’t buy every single one at the bakery.
